The AP Solar team

We have a big team here at Advanced Performance Solar and we could not be such a success without the determination and hard-work of our talented sales team. These men and women have undergone an extensive training in solar technology, financing and installation and share that knowledge with their family, friends, neighbors, associates, and clients.

One motivated Advanced Performance Soalr representative, Jessica Shaak, explains to the Press of Atlantic City just how she made a career transition into the solar industry and the rewards of helping her clients make the switch to solar electric systems for free!

We’re always happy to pair interested home and business owners with our educated and personable salespeople.

On the rise: Egg Harbor Township woman helps give solar power to homes for free

Staff Writer Elaine Rose | Press of Atlantic City

Name: Jessica Shaak, 38, of Egg Harbor Township

Family: Single

Education: Associate’s degree from Atlantic County Community College; majored in accounting

Business: Advanced Performance Solar, of West Berlin

Job: Sales representative

My elevator pitch is that I put solar panels on residential rooftops with zero upfront investment from the homeowner.

We sell the power that they produce back to them at a fixed discounted rate that’s less than what they pay to their utility company. We do that for a period of 20 years, and for those 20 years, we insure, maintain and monitor the system.

It makes solar both affordable and accessible to everyone, and we assume all the risk for return on investment.

They own it after the 20 years. It really becomes a win-win for the homeowner. They do have an option to buy it outright after five years.

Entry: I met one of the principals of the company at a networking group. After careful consideration, I decided it was time for a career change, and I made the leap. Previously I was in the title insurance business.

The biggest challenge right now is getting different utility companies to approve the interconnect agreement in a timely manner.

The product sells itself, because you’re giving it away for free. But the customer may have to cut down some trees or branches because the house has to have a roof that faces south or southwest.

The reward is that customers are fixing their utility costs for a period of 20 years. They don’t have to worry about increasing utility charges. And then they’re helping the environment.

I’m helping the environment by helping more people get solar.

It’s very rewarding to make new relationships and meet new people. I’ve made a lot of friends, because it’s a 3- to 4-month process (to get the panels installed). And I’m helping people.

About me: I love to always be meeting new people. I enjoy yoga, meditation and I definitely like to help people. I have two dogs, an Australian cattle dog and an Australian cattle dog and border collie mix. They are my babies.
